In the Kocaali and Karasu districts, heavy rains caused rivers to overflow, resulting in neighborhoods being flooded.
Heavy rains caused flooding in the Kocaali and Karasu districts of Sakarya on December 31, 2019. The overflowing river submerged neighborhoods, flooded the ground floors of houses, and damaged agricultural land.
AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority) and municipal teams began rescue operations in the affected areas. Citizens were evacuated to safe zones. Damage assessment studies were initiated after the floodwaters receded.
Authorities stated that assistance was provided to the affected citizens and that necessary support was given. Infrastructure work in the region was accelerated.
